Overview

The Engineering skill allows players to upgrade a variety of utility tools — chisels, hammers, pickaxes, knives, lobster pots, and harpoons — by combining materials such as metal bars, logs, and specialized parts. This skill integrates with automation menus, a reputation system, and task masters to provide progression and depth.

Tool Tiering and Upgrades

Each tool starts at a base tier (e.g., Bronze) and can be upgraded through increasingly rare materials and higher Engineering levels, progressing through Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, and finally Dragon tiers.

Chisel Upgrades

  • Bronze: Level 10 – Bronze Bar + Chisel + Oak Log
  • Iron: Level 15 – 2 Iron Bars + Bronze Chisel + Oak Log
  • Steel: Level 30 – 2 Steel Bars + Iron Chisel + Willow Log
  • Mithril: Level 50 – 5 Mithril Bars + Steel Chisel + Maple Log
  • Adamant: Level 200 – 7 Adamantite Bars + Mithril Chisel + Yew Log
  • Rune: Level 250 – 10 Rune Bars + Adamant Chisel + Magic Log
  • Dragon: Level 296 – 20 Dragon Bars + Rune Chisel + Cursed Log

Tinderbox Upgrades

  • Bronze: Level 10 – Bronze Bar + Tinderbox
  • Iron: Level 15 – 2 Iron Bars + Bronze Tinderbox
  • Steel: Level 30 – 2 Steel Bars + Iron Tinderbox
  • Mithril: Level 50 – 5 Mithril Bars + Steel Tinderbox
  • Adamant: Level 200 – 7 Adamant Bars + Mithril Tinderbox
  • Rune: Level 250 – 10 Rune Bars + Adamant Tinderbox
  • Dragon: Level 296 – 20 Dragon Bars + Rune Tinderbox

Hammer, Pickaxe, Knife, and Shear Upgrades

Each tool follows a similar progression path. Below are general requirements for upgrading to each tier:

  • Bronze Tier: Level 10 – 1 Bronze Bar + Tool + Oak Log
  • Iron Tier: Level 15 – 2 Iron Bars + Previous Tier + Oak Log
  • Steel Tier: Level 30 – 2 Steel Bars + Previous Tier + Willow Log
  • Mithril Tier: Level 50 – 5 Mithril Bars + Previous Tier + Maple Log
